To celebrate Primroses 1st birthday we decided on having a cake smash. They looked like so much fun. Something for Primrose to enjoy too. I loved how natural and candid they are, just Primrose and the cake, nothing else. And of course the mess! (Love it!)
Let’s face it when you’re looking for a photographer you look at their photos. They speak for themselves.
Jess Wilkins Photography uses a neutral theme to her photoshoots, it really helps to make your baby the star of the show. I definitely prefer neutral backgrounds, they are a timeless classic, suit every room in the house and bring so much attention to your darling little one.
Jess sent an email before the photo shoot with some outfit suggestions and some little pointers about the day. She also suggested a cake maker to us who made us a dairy-free rainbow cake for a great price. So there wasn’t any stress about cake making and planning before our photoshoot.
Cake Smash Day!
We arrived at Jess’ and went into her cosy studio inside her family home. It was very warm and inviting. There was two backdrops set up and some beautiful wooden toys on display. Im such a sucker for wooden toys (as you probably know) so this was perfect.
We sat down and Jess explained what was going to happen. She was very accommodating to routine and wanted to go with whatever we felt comfortable with. Which was lovely, because even though we’ve met a few time before, I’m always a bit awkward in front of the camera.
We got Primrose changed into one of her little outfits and we had some lovely natural family photos. Primrose and I had our photos first, it was very relaxed. No poses, we just went with the flow and Primrose was a natural and was really enjoying herself. Then Conor and Primrose had some photos before having some photos of the three of us.
After a little break, Primrose changed into her second outfit choice and had some photos on her own. She played with some of the beautiful wooden toy props, a number 1 and the letters ONE. All very relaxed and went with whatever Primrose fancied (mainly chewing, climbing on and licking the toys), but the photos turned out SO cute.
Next was cake time!
At first, Primrose was a little confused at this giant beautiful cake in front of her. But she soon noticed the blueberries and raspberries on top and got stuck in.
Conor had to take a bite, because it looked so delicious, which Primrose found so funny and she imitated him, taking bites out of the cake.
Once the cake was well and truly destroyed and there was cakey mess everywhere, Jess ran a small bubble bath. Primrose loves the bath so we got some lovely bubble photos.
After the photoshoot, Jess took a few additional photos I had requested beforehand. She took some breastfeeding photos for me as Primrose turning one is also my little boob anniversary. I got my Golden boobs and it’s so lovely to have photos to remember the occasion. Jess was more than willing and absolutely loved the idea of remembering our year milestone.
We all had so much fun at the photo shoot, and it was so much more than a cake smash. We’ve got some wonderful family photos and fun memories to cherish for a lifetime. The whole morning was amazing, so relaxed and definitely one to remember.
We honestly enjoyed every moment and such amazing memories were made, all thanks to Jess.
