Highs And Lows of 2017

highs and lows of 2017

I’m taking a look back on all the highs and lows of 2017 through a series of fun questions created by Kate which I personally think are fab! I struggle to think of what to put in a year summary but these questions really cover everything and are so easy to use for a summary of the years events.

If you want to do a look back at 2017, feel free to use these questions. But don’t forget to link back to Kate’s post!

So, without any ado, here’s our 2017 summary…

1. What was your happiest event?

Giving birth has to be the happiest event in my whole life (sorry Conor). Seeing Primrose for the first time, cuddling her and nursing her will be an experience that will always be amazing.

2. What was the saddest thing to happen?

So this is a weird/selfish one but being pregnant I was hardly able to eat and when I was able to eat there was so much pregnant women aren’t allowed. Such as certain cheeses. Now that I’m not pregnant because I’m breastfeeding and Primrose has cmpa I still can’t eat cheese. Cheese is one of my most favourite foods.

3. What was the most unlikely thing to happen that actually went ahead and did?

I had a natural birth! As soon as I found out that I was pregnant I was so scared of birth that I immediately started looking up about elective c-sections. After doing Hypnobirthing I’m addicted to birth!

4. Who let you down?

A few people, one mainly. She was meant to be by my side throughout my journey into motherhood but wasn’t/isn’t.

5. Who supported you?

Conor. He has been the most amazing husband I could ever ask for. Caring for me during my hyperemesis, being the best birthing partner I could ever ask for and being such a great daddy to Primrose.

6. Tell us what you learned.

That pregnancy is a long, hard but amazing process and that you always get judged as a mother.

7. Tell us what made you laugh.

A lot of things. Such a random one comes to my head and that’s if Conor falling over the fab during the summer. He’s SO tall and it was hilarious as it looked like it was happening in slow motion as he hit the floor. I was crying with laughter.

8. Tell us the things that made you cry.

Sounds very soppy but I remember once night when Primrose was a few days old it was around midnight and she had just woke up with a bad belly (cmpa & reflux) and I sat on the bed with her cradled in my arms just sobbing. Conor came in and asked what I was crying about, I told him it was because I couldn’t believe how beautiful and perfect she was and that we’d created her. He started sobbing too. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment. It melts my heart.

9. Tell us three things your child or children did to make you feel proud.

Please miss this question out if you are not a parent.

Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks old!
First smile and giggles from her.
She rolled over! From belly to back on New Year’s Eve at 3 months and 2 weeks. So proud of her.

10. Tell us the things that made you proud of yourself.

I’m proud for sticking to breastfeeding for almost 4 months now. Even though it was so tough I stuck through it and now I absolutely love it. The connection we have is indescribable.
Graduating from my degree. I completed my dissertation whilst severely ill with HG and just pregnancy in general, so it’s such a big achievement that I graduated.

11. Tell us the challenges you overcame

Overcame Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Well overcame is said lightly, I gave birth and that ended it (thank god). But honestly I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

12. Tell us the things you would like to change about your life in 2018

I’d love to dedicate more time to my blog, my new family and start saving.
I have a few more goals for 2018 that you can read here.
