Why I’m not on a postpartum diet

Well, it’s the end of February, I’m now 5 months postpartum so a diet has been looming on my mind.

Throughout the pregnancy, I had Hyperemesis so I did not gain as much weight as expected if anything I lost weight. By the time I was in my third trimester I had dropped two jean sizes. Yeah, it was crazy. I went form a size 22 to a size 18, then postpartum I stayed the same.

I’m still a size 18, obviously, I lost my giant pregnant belly but other than that I’m the same size. I did weigh myself when I was 2 months postpartum and I doubt much has changed since then.

I am starting to think about dieting, I’d love to be one of those women who go tiny after having a baby, but let’s face it. I’m plus size and pretty much always have been since college.

A lot of mums have started slimming world or other diets but I just can’t be bothered.

I have no idea why.

I have far too much to do during the day with a 4-month-old baby than to worry about dieting.

Maternity pay is rubbish so buying diet food is also out of the question. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love a good salad but at the moment food is still all about convenience.

We don’t have a crazy bad diet anyway, we eat our 5 a day, I can’t indulge on cheese, milk, chocolate or ice cream because of Primrose’s cows milk protein allergy, so I’m very limited on snacks.

We eat things like; lasagna, stew, bolognese, shepherds pie… all comfort foods that are perfect after a long tiring day with a baby. But more recently we’ve been eating steaks, stir-frys, fish as were coming into somewhat warmer weather.

I’m also breastfeeding, so apparently, the weight should magically melt away. Does it fuck! I am the hungriest I’ve ever been. I’ll eat my meal, then an hour later I’ll be snacking or having seconds. I can see how you could lose weight breastfeeding but honestly, I’m far too hungry.

Also, this is one of the reasons I wouldn’t want to go on a diet, I’ve already have experienced a drop in supply when I cut out dairy and that was hard on me, Id hate to start changing things and go through it again.

Although I’m not going to start a diet, I may, however, to try to get some (very) light exercises in my daily routine. I’m going to see if I can find some easy postpartum exercises to tighten up my tummy as, like every mum, I have a mum-tum left. So I wouldn’t mind that gone, or at least a little toned down.
